Tees Valley welcomes visitors with an uplifting coastline of soaring cliffs, peaceful hills and stunning countryside scattered with medieval market towns.
Pack a picnic, climb the landmark peak of Roseberry Topping and take in the stupendous 360-degree panorama from its summit, looking down on the land of explorers.

Tees Valley is the birthplace of seafarer Captain James Cook and also of the railway, and this heritage lives on at the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum, Hartlepool's Maritime Experience and Head of Steam, the Darlington Railway Museum, where you can see the engine driven on the opening day of the first ever passenger railway in 1825.
Pioneering firsts continue at mima, Middlesbrough’s Institute of Modern Art, with ground-breaking contemporary and modern art and design exhibitions, and the world-class Saltholme Nature Reserve, which will welcome its first visitors in spring 2009.
