Our stunning coastline and glittering lakes, winding rivers and rushing streams offer so many opportunities to have a splashing time!
Our miles of golden, sandy beach are hard to resist – perfect for picnics, paddles and sandcastle-building. You could also learn to surf or bodyboard. Lessons are available at Tynemouth and Saltburn. Other favourite surfing spots for the more competent include Embleton Bay, Alnmouth and Bamburgh.

Watersports for kids and families
You’ll find excellent sailing and canoeing at Kielder Water and Forest Park. In the south of the region, Teesside White Water Course runs fun parent and child canoeing courses.
Boat trips are available along the River Tyne and the River Wear, enabling you to see NewcastleGateshead and Durham from a different angle.
Or why not hire your own boat and spend a blissful afternoon rowing on the river at Durham, watching the world go by?
