There’s a big difference between food that happens to be produced locally and produce that is local but also grown or nurtured with care and passion. For the dedicated craftsmen amongst North East England’s producers it truly is their passion, and the proof of the pudding is definitely in the eating!

Regular farmers’ markets provide a great opportunity to sample local specialities. Alnwick’s and Hexham’s have been voted among the top 12 UK farmers’ markets by the Times Online, and Barnard Castle’s was voted ‘Best Farmers’ Market for Vegetarians’ by the Vegetarian Society in 2007.
We’re very proud of our produce and, in addition to our farmers’ markets, you’ll find it for sale in butchers’, delicatessens and food halls throughout the region.
Whether you’re making up a picnic, cooking up a storm in your holiday cottage or just checking the daily-changing menus at gastro pubs, Helen Pickles, freelance writer for the Telegraph, Tatler and the Independent on Sunday, has put together a mouth-watering hamper of our regional specialities to choose from.
